Templates
Allow golden images per project, cap their resources and set per-template provisioning rules.
Allowed templates
A template is a golden image on the cluster. Allowing it for a project, with caps and an optional rule, makes it available in the New VM wizard. The Templates page shows the allowed templates as cards; click one to open its page with Overview and Defaults tabs.
- 1Prepare the image on the cluster and mark it as a template in Proxmox.
- 2On Templates, click Allow template (template.manage) and pick a cluster. Only clusters enabled for the project appear.
- 3Pick the template. The portal detects its minimums and suggests caps at twice the minimum.
- 4Adjust the caps and add an optional note that users see when picking the template.
Resource caps
- Max vCPU (up to 64), memory (up to 512 GB) and disk (up to 4096 GB). The lower bound is always the template's own minimum.
- Caps apply when creating a VM and again whenever it is resized.
- Revoking a template removes it from the wizard. VMs created from it keep running unchanged.
Provisioning rules (Defaults tab)
| Rule | Effect |
|---|---|
| Naming scheme | A forced prefix plus a VMID range; the number in the name is the VMID |
| VM storage | Pins clones to a storage, or uses the project default |
| Fixed resources | vCPU, memory and disk are set; the Resources step disappears |
| Fixed network | Bridge or SDN VNet with VLAN; the Network step disappears |
| Domain join | A per-template domain and OU, otherwise the project's deployment settings |
| Backup job | A job prefix; new VMs join their node's matching backup job |
| High availability | Register new VMs for HA and add them to their node's affinity rule |
| Deployment workflow | Use a workflow from the Deployments page instead of the built-in steps |
The Defaults tab previews which backup job and HA rule each node maps to, and warns when a rule is ambiguous.
